How to add page numbers or a watermark to a PDF
Number every page, or put CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or your own text across a PDF — free and in your browser.
Page numbers and watermarks are added as ordinary text on each page, so you can still move or change any of them before you save.
Page numbers
- Open the PDF in the editor.
- Choose Watermark · Page no. (in the tool strip, next to Sign), then Add Page Numbers.
- Choose a position — bottom centre, bottom right, top right or bottom left — and a format: "Page 1 of N", "- 1 -" or just "1".
- Choose Add to document, then Save / Export and PDF Document.
Watermark
- Choose Watermark · Page no. and stay on Add Watermark.
- Pick a ready-made text — CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, DO NOT COPY, SAMPLE — or type your own, and choose a colour.
- Under Apply to, choose All pages, Selected or Current Page.
- Choose Add to document, then save as above.
Good to know
- Page numbers are written in the app's language: in Lao they read "ໜ້າ 1 ຈາກ 5", in Thai "หน้า 1 จาก 5".
- Numbers follow the pages' current order, so reorder or delete pages first.
- Each number and watermark is a text box: click it to move it, edit it, change its size or colour, or delete it.
- A watermark discourages copying but cannot prevent it — anyone with a PDF editor can remove it.
