How to split a PDF into separate files
Split a PDF by selecting the pages you want and exporting them as a new document — free, in your browser, with no upload.
"Splitting" a PDF usually means one of two things: pulling a few pages out into their own file, or breaking one document into several. Both are done the same way here — choose the pages you want to keep, then export.
Steps
- Open the editor and drop your PDF onto the page.
- In the page thumbnails, click the pages you want in the new file. Selected pages are highlighted; click again to deselect.
- Delete the pages you don't want, or keep your selection and go straight to export.
- Choose Export → PDF. The result contains only the pages you kept, in the order shown.
- To produce a second file from the same original, reload the page and repeat with the other pages.
Reordering while you're there
Pages can be dragged into a different order before exporting, and rotated individually. The exported file reflects exactly what the thumbnails show.
Good to know
- The original file on your computer is never modified — you always get a new file.
- Documents up to roughly 100 MB and 500 pages work comfortably. Larger files depend on how much memory your browser has.
- A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked before it can be edited.
